1 Corinthians 14
1Co 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
IN THIS WONDERFUL AND GLORIOUS CHAPTER, Paul is talking about the private use of speaking in ecstasy. But he does also bring in the private use of speaking in ecstasy.
Our verse today deals with the private use of speaking in ecstasy.
He is making it clear that when we speak in tongues we are not speaking to men but to God. In this case then, he says that no man understands us.
When we are praying or speaking in other tongues, we are not talking to people. We are are talking to our blessed Heavenly Father.
Speaking in ecstasy is a special prayer language God gives to His children when they receive the infilling of the Holy Ghost.
It is a very special, multi-faceted gift.
Yes, when you speak in other tongues, most of the times you do not understand what you are speaking because Paul tells us that our understanding is unfruitful. But our spirits knows what we are praying.
The New Creation life is a life of the spirit. It is a life lived from the spirit outwards. It is a life that flows from the spirit outwards. Jesus said, out of your belly (spirit) shall flow rivers of living waters. This spake he of the spirit which they that believe on Him should receive.
When we speak in other tongues, it is our spirit praying not our minds.
God is a spirit and they that must worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.
Our human language is insufficient in communicating eternal verities with our dear Heavenly Father. That is why God gave us the prayer language of ecstasy.
Don’t be quiet! The bulk of your praying should be done in the spirit- in tongues!
Yes you may not know what you are speaking, but you are speaking to God, and in the spirit you are speaking mysteries! Alleluia!
Let’s speak in other tongues right now for a few moments! Lift up your voice!
To the ends of the earth!
God bless you richly with great grace and many blessings!
