They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
THIS IS REALLY startling!
These ones the Master is talking about here are people that received the word with joy. The word actually got across to them. The rejoiced at the word; they hailed the word; they glorified the word. The word meant something to them. And they believed it!
This is where many Believers are! But there is more!
Luke states that yes they received the word with joy, they didn’t have root in themselves. They have not allowed the word to take root.
The word takes root through study and meditation.
Since the word has not taken root, they believed for a while.
Oh boy, i have observed with nostalgia a passel of people like that in the course of my ministry. They only believe for a while.
Then when trial comes and things don’t go as they expect it, they fall away! Really heart breaking!
What was the problem? They did not believe to the end!
God does not want us to believe for a while. He wants us to take our stand come rain, high waters, sunshine or whatever! We are to be unshakable in our believe.
A few days ago, i wrote about the “echo of faith”, which means a faith that lingers, a faith that stays the course, and will not give up or fall away.
“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”
He is writing to those that believe, and he said he is writing so that we may continue to believe.
Peter did not believe to the end, that is why when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid and began to sink. And the Master said to him “why didn’t you linger in your believing.” (My paraphrase.)
When you receive the word and rejoice over it, hold that word, allow it to take root, and come what may, never let go of it. The boisterous winds of life will come but don’t let go of the word. Heaven and earth will pass away but the word will never pass away.
The truth is, if you believe to the very end, you will never be disappointed. You will come out with a testimony. Trials produce triumphs for those that linger to the end! Tests produce testimonies for those that believe to the very end!
Don’t allow the pressures of life to make you fall away from the word that you received! The Lord (the Word) shall surely perfect ALL that concerneth you.
This is your best year so far! That is exactly what it is!
God bless you richly!
To the ends of the earth!
God bless you richly with great grace and many blessings!
