But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
HERE PAUL CONTINUES HIS ASSAULT ON man’s pride!
He really can’t understand why anyway will want to boast of their righteousness except the work for it.
He makes it clear that if a man works for his righteousness then it was not gotten by grace but by works. And such worked-for-righteouness is unacceptable before God.
This worked-for-righteousness is seen in man’s great effort to do good. You see him do good works; you see fast and pray; you see him give alms to the poor and homeless; you see him trying to treat the earth well; you see him offering sacrifices in many ways. Many religions of the world are built on this ideology, even the ‘christian’ religion. (please notice the christian is in inverted commas). Many go to church and believe that doing good works will bring them righteousness. It will never.
This matter is very serious with God! It is so serious He will not accept any good work to be ascribed to receiving righteousness.
In this Chapter He eulogizes Abraham for ONLY believing in other to be made righteous.
In our text today, he says, ‘But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.’
God does not want any works from any man in this matter of righteousness. He does not want you to work to get it, neither does He want you to work to keep it.
All He wants you to do is BELIEVE! Your believing in the Lord Jesus that God raised Him from the dead is what will bring you righteousness and your continued Belief in that keeps you righteous. No iota of good works will be accepted here.
But he that worketh not but believes ……
God bless you richly!
Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
ONE OF THE BANES OF HUMANITY IS MAN’S tendency to justify himself! Man always believes he is better or more righteous than another.
Some times this self righteousness is also demonstrated in the guise of humility. Man abases himself and at the same time makes others believe he is more humble than they are!
The truth according to Romans chapter 2 is that every man is guilty before God.
In this chapter three, Paul declares that man is inherently evil. He asserts that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
ALL MEANS ALL!
Every man is indicted!
It is pathetic to hear some people say that there is good in man (that is the unregenerate man). they are humanists!
That thinking contradicts the scripture. Man is a sinner by nature; he is inherently evil. Every thing he does stems from that evil nature of his. All his good works are rejected by God.
As a result, man must be born again. Except a man be born again, he can not see the kingdom of God.
Every man wants to be right before God. But the question is who determines the standard of righteousness with God; man or God! It has to be God!
God has said that THERE IS NOTHING MAN CAN DO IN AND OF HIMSELF THAT CAN MAKE him righteous before God. Isaiah 64:6
As a result, He offers righteousness to man freely and legally based on the finished work and penal substitutionary sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
“God sent Christ to be our sacrifice. Christ offered his life’s blood, so that by faith in him we could come to God. And God did this to show that in the past he was right to be patient and forgive sinners. This also shows that God is right when he accepts people who have faith in Jesus.” Romans 3:25 CEV
The righteousness which God offers man is His very own righteousness. By His grace He makes it available freely for all that will accept the work of redemption done by His Son Jesus Christ. All that accept it, receive God’s righteousness.
Man’s problem is that he really wants to earn it. But God has deprived all humanity the ability to boast by offering it free. Herein men stumble, because they will like to brag about their achievement of salvation. But God refuses all such boasting. “What is left for us to brag about? Not a thing!” Romans 3:27 CEV
All praise for our salvation and righteousness must be to Him alone!
God bless you richly!
In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.
SOME THINGS THAT PAUL SAYS ARE VERY AUDACIOUS! He just has some nerve to make certain claims! But we know that “ALL scripture was given by the inspiration of God and is profitable…”
And we know that the scripture was written by “Holy men of God as they were moved (born along) by the Holy Ghost”
Our text today was actually written by the inspiration of God. The Holy spirit inspired Paul to write it.
Many people wonder how God will judge men on the last day. Others are wondering God’s means of salvation.
You must understand that men are not saved by keeping the ten commandments as much as that is commendable. Men are not saved by reason of living out the sermon on the mount.
Paul makes bold to say that God will judge men by Jesus Christ, but it will be according to his gospel. He is saying that God will judge the secretes of men, and the Person God has appointed to do it is Jesus Christ; and the standard Jesus will use will be what Paul preached!
Wao! What an audacious claim!
God’s means of salvation is as Paul has laid it down. God’s means of righteousness is as Paul has laid it down.
To Paul and Paul alone is committed this dispensation of grace. Paul is the dispenser of this dispensation! He was a chosen vessel! It really had nothing to do with him. It was all the grace of God.
It only follows that Jesus will judge men based on what Paul had said.
No man can neglect the teachings of Paul and be born again.
Paul said “for the heart man believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:10
We then ask, what does a man need to believe to be righteous and what does he need to confess to be saved? Paul tells us these things, he lays them out thoroughly like a master builder: “because if thou shalt confess with thy mouth Jesus as Lord, and shalt believe in thy heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved:” Romans 10:9
Paul said to Timothy, “Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, of the seed of David, according to my gospel:” 2 Tim 2:8
Salvation only comes from the Jesus that Paul preached!
The Jesus that Paul preached, is the Jesus that gave His life a ransom for all, and was raised again for our Justification!
Paul’s gospel is a gospel of grace!
Paul’s gospel is the standard that will be used to judge all men!
If you have received that gospel, send it to others!
God bless you richly!
For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
PAUL THE APOSTLE IS TALKING ABOUT how the righteousness of God is revealed. He is talking about where the righteousness of God can be found.
The truth is that many people are looking for righteousness. Every one knows that they need to be right with God. They want to obtain the righteousness of God. But many are looking for it in the wrong places. Many are looking for it in religion. Others are searching for it in an ascetic life. Others are working to earn it.
Non of those things give righteousness.
Paul said in Roman 1:16 “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation.”
Then in our verse today which is verse 17, he says “For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.”
It is clear then that the righteousness of God is revealed in the gospel of Christ.
There is no other place to find righteousness with God other than in the gospel of Christ.
When a man receives the gospel of Christ, he receives the righteousness of God.
If he refuses the gospel of Christ, he has refused the righteousness of God, it does not matter how hard or religious such a person is.
The righteousness of God can ONLY BE FOUND IN THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST.
If you have received the gospel, you have received the very righteousness of God.
God bless you richly!
Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.
THIS IS A VERY SENSITIVE TERRITORY! I WANT you to tread cautiously with me.
This is not heresy in any way. We are learning who we truly are.
Here Paul had been bit by a venomous serpent, and the normal thing was for him to swell up and die!
Paul just shook off the beast into the fire! He didn’t even pray! And continued what he was doing! What did he know that most of us don’t? The locals may help us find out!
The locals of course expected him to swell up and die, but when they waited for a while and the man did not swell up neither did he drop dead, they changed their minds and said, “he is a god.”
Please notice the small letter “g” in the “god.”
In order to honor our Heavenly Father we must reserve the capital “G” in God for Him.
Our question is, where the locals wrong in saying that Paul was a god?
We must answer to the contrary! They were not wrong! Yea Paul was a god! And not just Paul but every believer in Christ Jesus also is a god!
Don’t let that scare you. You see, it is either men make you a god as in the case of the Roman emperors (which is really nonsense); or you are born a god. In our case as in Paul’s case, we are born of God and therefore we are gods.
You see, when a man gives birth, he gives birth to a man. When a goat gives birth, it gives birth to a goat. When a snake gives birth, it gives birth to a snake. It also follows that when God gives birth, He must give birth to gods. When we were born again, we were born again as gods. We became gods.
Being born of God does not always mean you will be acting like God. You grow into manifesting god.
The Bible says “ye are of God little children.” He is saying we came from God. We originated from God!
John 1:12 “as many as receive him, to them gave He power to become the offspring (children) of God.” If we are children of God, are we not gods?
Now you need to study God, learn to behave god, learn to act god, imitate your Father.
When you school yourself in the godlife, just like Paul, the things that kill men will never kill you.
The things that trouble men will never trouble you! The things that frighten men will never frighten you!
Ye are of God little children, and have overcome them, for greater is He that is in you than he that is in all the world!
God bless you richly!
And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.
HERE PAUL IS TALKING ABOUT HIS SPIRITUAL PERCEPTION.
He perceived that the voyage will be frost with danger.
Spiritual perception is important in our walk.
It must be noted that spiritual perception is different from the Voice of the Holy Ghost instructing you.
Through spiritual perception we are able to “pick” up what the Spirit is about to do and we can prepare and align with Him. Sometime we have to pray and fast more. Other times we have to get into aggressive Praise. At other times we have increase our giving.
The Shunamite woman in Kings perceived that Elisha was a servant of God. And she and her husband acted on that perception and their entire world was changed.
Your perception is important.
The people in this chapter did not act on Paul perception as a result, they suffered dearly.
Work on your perception!
God bless you richly.
23That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.
THE REALITY OF THE GOSPEL IS THAT Christ suffered for our sins.
Christ did not suffer because He was dying for a just cause, nor was it because He was a martyr and was dying for what He believed.
He suffered for our sins according to the scriptures.
He was made sin with our sin. He was made a curse for us. All the torment and horrendous sufferings the Man endured were on our behalf. He was our sin substitute. He gave His very life a ransom for all.
His death was for us.
He was also the very first to rise from the dead.
When Paul said He was the first to rise from the dead, he is talking of the fact that Jesus was the very first Person to be raised from spiritual death unto spiritual life.
1 Peter 3:18 ” For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:”
Some translations say He was made alive in the spirit. That is talking about the fact that Jesus was born again.
He is the first to be born again after being made sin with our sin.
In Ephesians 2:1&2, Paul makes it clear that we have been quickened, that is made alive in Christ. We have been raised together with Him and made to sit in Heavenly places with Him. Alleluia! This is really incredibly awesome!
We are in Christ.
Yes indeed Christ should suffer and be the first to rise from spiritual death, and should show light unto the people and the gentiles.
We have seen that light and now, we walk in it.
And there is still something greater……
We are now the LIGHT OF THE WORLD. Wao!
God bless you richly!
But had certain questions against him of their own superstition, and of one Jesus, which was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.
FESTUS HAS JUST ASSUMED OFFICE, AND HE IS SADDLED WITH THE “BURDEN” OF PAUL; but wanting to please the Jews he timidly asked Paul if he was willing to go to Jerusalem to face trial there. But Paul refused!
Our attention is drawn to Festus’s words concerning Paul, Festus said that Paul has held or affirmed that Jesus who was dead was alive.
Both Festus and Agrippa know that if what Paul is saying is true then it holds grave consequences for all of humanity.
It means that Jesus is everything He claimed to be. He claimed to be God; He claimed to be the Messiah; He claimed to be the Savior of the world; He claimed that all that believe on Him will have everlasting life; He claimed that all that receive Him not will perish in everlasting torment.
By being raised from the dead, it means that all that He, Jesus, claimed to be is true.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ was the central theme of the early church. It must recapture our focus in this day and age.
Yes Jesus was dead, but Paul consistently affirmed that He, Jesus, is alive.
Yes Jesus was dead, but I consistently affirm that He is alive!
Yes Jesus was dead, but what do you affirm?
Paul affirmed He was alive even at the peril of his own life!
Jesus is alive, His resurrection is our justification!
God bless you richly!
Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.
PAUL SAID THAT IT WAS TOUCHING the resurrection of the dead that he was being called in question.
The subject of the resurrection of the dead is extremely important.
Is death the cessation of human consciousness? Is death the very end of it all? Does it all end when we die? Does man become extinct when he dies?
The answer to all of these questions is, Nay!
Death is not the end of it all. Death is not the terminus of life. In actual sense, it is just a major bus stop from which the real life begins.
When a man dies, he departs his body; and enters the spirit world as a disembodied spirit. In that condition he must be restrained in the spirit world in Heaven in bliss anticipation of his resurrection, or in Hell in torment in awful anticipation of his resurrection, depending on what they did with Jesus Christ when they were alive on earth.
Because man was never designed to live without his body, even though dead, he still really wants to be reunited with his body.
Because Jesus was raised from the dead, all that are dead and that die will be raised from the dead. Paul said in 1 Corinthians, “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.” 1 Corinthians 15:22. He is talking about physical death and the resurrection in that chapter.
During the resurrection, those that believe on the Lord Jesus Christ shall be raised with glorious bodies unto everlasting Joy. And after a thousand and seven years, those that believed NOT on Jesus Christ will be raised with decomposing, putrefying bodies unto contempt.
The issue of the resurrection of the dead is important.
Are they dead raised? Emphatically yes!
The dead shall be raised according to their order: Christ being the first fruit, afterwards they that are His at His coming, and lastly, they that are not His (those that were not saved before they died). 1 Corinthians 15:23
“And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.” Acts 24:15
The resurrection of the dead WILL SURELY take place! Alleluia!
God bless you richly!
And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.
WE LIVE IN A GLORIOUS AND unrivalled generation. The human population is bursting forth; technology and entertainment are at their pick. Despite these developments and more, man is still basically the same. He still has the same basic needs he has always had. The same spiritual needs that humanity had millennia ago, man still has today.
As a result of the present culture of fun, many have misunderstood that many times God leads us even into hard places for His own purposes and for our reward.
We are amazed that the Lord Jesus appeared to Paul here to comfort him in the midst of this hard trying time, and to encourage him to be steadfast because he will still testify of Him also in Rome.
When we find ourselves in hard places, we must be faithful, we must be of good cheer trusting the Lord to lead us on.
All of God’s dealings are not always entertaining and fun; as we grow in the things of God we learn to consecrate our lives to Him more and more for His glory and eternal purpose.
Our lives are not ours but His, sometimes He may lead us to do things that are uncomfortable to our flesh at the moment. And though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we will fear no evil.
Our goal in life is never happiness and comfort but the fulfillment of the very purposes for which we were born.
Paul had the glorious honor and privilege of preaching in Rome and had some converts even among Caesar’s household!
It is my prayer that you will pursue with zeal, disregarding even the hard places, the very purpose for which you were born!
Don’t quit because it is hard! Don’t quit because you are pressed in on every side! Don’t quit because you are confused! Don’t quit because people are against you!
Somehow, in your hard places, God will send you comfort to see you through. You will never walk alone! God Almighty is with you! And remember, count it all joy! Alleluia!
God bless you richly!
